In Their Own Words: The Lilabean Foundation

The Lilabean Foundation is honored to have supported five brain cancer families through Special Love during the Covid-19 crisis. At this time, we feel it is so important to act on the real and immediate need that families with kids in active treatment are facing. As a mom to a brain cancer survivor, I know first hand how difficult and overwhelming diagnosis and treatment can be. Add on top of that the financial burdens and health concerns that come with Covid…it is just too much. Our mission at the Lilabean Foundation is to fund pediatric brain cancer research, but we also recognize the need to pivot and react to the current situation. We are so grateful to our community and donors for helping us to quickly raise funds to support these families.

We chose to help Special Love families because of a connection we have with the organization. On a personal note, Mike and I are so grateful for the opportunities Special Love has given Lila and our family. For the past two years, Lila has had a wonderful experience at Camp Fantastic with other kids with cancer. To be able to send her off to summer camp with doctors and nurses from NIH and other institutions has been such a blessing. Special Love provides children with cancer an opportunity to have a true summer camp experience in a safe environment. The kids get to meet new friends, bond and have fun with others with shared circumstances and experiences.
