Camp Created Beautiful Memories

Camp Created Beautiful Memories for the Florin Family

The Florin family made camp a priority and created beautiful memories together.

Just one month shy of his first birthday, Peter was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer that affects only 4 in every 1,000,000 children. Despite almost constant treatment, his parents recognized the importance of setting aside time to have fun together as a family. Two months after he was first diagnosed, Peter’s father and four older siblings attended Tidewater Family Weekend while he remained at the hospital with his mother for treatment. After three days of fun away from childhood cancer, they knew they needed to get Peter to camp.

Between intensive treatments, Peter and his family joined us for two family weekend camps in 2018.

In June, the Florins attended Reunion Family Weekend where they welcomed summer with dozens of families just like them.  Peter was small, but resilient, and his energetic personality lit up the room. We saw Peter again four months later at Octoberfest Family Weekend.  His leg had been amputated at the hip just three weeks earlier, but his family chose to celebrate life and allow Peter to enjoy every moment until his passing on October 27th.

Special Love joined Peter’s family and friends in celebrating his short but beautiful life and will continue to support them for years to come. BRASS Camp will continue to provide Peter’s four siblings with a community of empathetic and understanding peers and our family weekends will continue to give them opportunities to heal and bond as a family.
