Day One of Camp Fantastic by Amanda

This is my third year of camp and it gets better each time. This year I’m with the teenagers for the first time and it is a whole lot of fun. I already have a great group of friends that I love hanging out with.

This is my third year of camp and it gets better each time. This year I’m with the teenagers for the first time and it is a whole lot of fun. I already have a great group of friends that I love hanging out with.

Monday was the first full day and it was great. It all started with a loud wake up call from a couple of counselors and campers. I got dressed and headed off to breakfast. It was delicious! Afterwards, I got to choose my first class, which was newspaper. I continued my newspaper column for the third year, and it’s called Getting the Dirt on Your Counselors. It is going strong!

My second class ended up being “Cool and Crazy Crafts.” I got to take a drinking glass and wrap rubber bands around it to make a pattern, similar to how tie dye is made. Once the rubber bands were on I got to spray paint it. It is now blue and purple. I turned my knee blue with the paint by accident but it was still really fun.

Afterwards it was lunchtime, then rest time, and then tribal meetings. I’m in the green tribe and our team name is the leprechauns. We had to come up with a team song and we decided to do it based on one of the popular camp songs.

After all of that stuff, we got to go to our third class and I decided to go to “Sew Sew Animals.” We were told that we could make anything we wanted out of felt. I’m pretty advanced at sewing compared to the class so I decided to make an elephant because it would probably be harder. I chose some lavender felt to make the body and cut out all of the needed shapes, and then it was time to go to free time.

During free time I went to the pool and played with my friends. My friend Zoe and I play fought over a pool noodle for half the time, both of us hanging on to it with both hands and feet.

We got to go to dinner once we dried off and it was superhero themed. I brought my red cape from the time that I dressed up as Supergirl for Halloween when I was younger. I put on my supercalifragilisticexpialidocious shirt and the cape and decided to go as “Super Speller,” my new made up superhero. My roommate wore pajamas and was “Pajama Girl” and my counselor Holly wore a dance costume from the song Firebird and she went as “Firegirl.”

After dinner was the “minute to win it” carnival. I didn’t play too many games but I got to ride on a motorcycle and I got a really cute teddy bear.

All in all, it was a fantastic day!
