Fantastic Winter Weekend

January 4-6, 2019

HOW HOW! That’s the best praise we offer at camp and that’s what all had to say about Fantastic Winter Weekend 2019. The weekend is dedicated to current and past cancer patients between the ages of 13-25 and includes a day of adventure at Bryce Resort in Basye, VA with skiing, snowboarding, tubing and hanging out at the lodge for crafts and games. Despite a little rain (and not much snow), we made the most of the conditions and had a great time.

This year’s event welcomed 15 teens and 24 young adults, one of whom was a first-time Special Love participant. The rest were past or current campers, including several who have also served as week-long camp counselors.

We tried out a new camp site closer to Bryce Resort this year – Shrine Mont Retreat and Conference Center, which is only 2 miles away from the resort. That gave us the opportunity to spend more time at Bryce on Saturday enjoying winter sports. We spent the evening with special activities just for the YACer’s (tubing for the 18-25 year olds) and the teens (enjoying a fire pit with s’mores, hot chocolate, and singing).

A special thank you to Shrine Mont Retreat and Conference Center, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Bryce Resort, and Richards Bus Company for an awesome weekend!
